| Everything You Wanted to Know About Cowpooling!
Cowpooling is a way to fill your freezer with quality, grass fed beef at a reasonable price. This year we are offering our pasture raised, grass fed, happy and healthy cows for Cowpooling. A whole beef cow weighs around 1000 pounds and yields about 400 pounds, plus, of quality meat depending on cuts/trimming. While we gladly welcome customers wanting to buy a full share, we do offer more reasonable shares making it affordable for most people to enjoy the taste and health benefits of eating REAL Beef! THANK YOU! to everyone who participated in our COWPOOLING this Fall. We realize you appreciate our methods and standards for what we believe is proper and humane animal husbandry. But for those of you who missed out on buying a share, look for another opportunity soon. Cows, or Cattle in general, are very important to the Farm. We view the Farm as a single living organism, wholistic. Cows do more than provide natural fertilization, they sequester carbon by the way they graze and by they way their hooves push the weeds, grasses and seeds into the ground, making topsoil and preventing erosion, by natural reseeding through their manures, etc. This is made more evident through the intensive grazing and daily rotations that we use for them here at LoganBerry. And, we have pasture grasses when I see others having to feed hay already. Last, but not least, their flesh is healthy and provides natural health and nutrition to our bodies the way the Creator intended, through their eating of Grasses! We offer full, half, quarter and eighth Cowpool shares. When a cow has been completely "sold", we personally deliver it to the abattoir for butchering. After the meat has been dry aged for two plus weeks, cut and wrapped, we bring it back to LoganBerry for the "owner" to pick up. (By the way, did you know that E-coli CANNOT grow on dry-aged beef that has been aged for at least 14 days? Nature works for us, if we only co-operate!) You will be buying a whole cow or a portion of a cow. Our prices are based on "hoof" weight plus the cost of transporting, slaughtering, butchering and meat wrapping (some will come vacuum wrapped, some with paper wrapping, like bone cuts that puncture plastic). Please remember that every cow will weigh different amounts and the final weight of wrapped meat will also vary. Our shares are based on an average weight. Here is what you can expect for the various shares.
Each share will give you a variety of cuts. We can't promise that you will get exactly specific cuts you want (unless you purchase one-half share) but you will get a variety of steaks, roasts, ribs, stew meat, ground beef, cubed steak, soup bones, brisket, shanks, and marrow bones and tallow (if you want it). We strongly feel it is important to honor the animal's sacrifice by utilizing as much of their flesh as we possibly can, therefore we ask the butcher to allow us to bring home cuts that are usually discarded in the offal. Grass Fed, pastured, all natural Beef is one of the healthiest meats and protein source you can find. I encourage all of you to do your research as to why this is so. Make it your own, not just because we say so! Cow photo by John Palmour |
